The Mujeres Unidas Nueva Vida Transitional Housing Unit program has 16 apartments and 1 life skills hall that were build in 2002. Since then, Mujeres Unidas has helped an average of 13 families per year and approximately 910 individual (mother and child/children) since its inception.
For 84 years, the Junior League of McAllen has carried out its mission to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Since our inception in 1938, we have been hard at work to adapt and meet the needs of our community as times changed and needs evolved. One of those changing needs was an a need for the services provided by MU. Therefore, JLM partnered with MU to update one Nueva Vida Transitional Housing Unit.
Over the course of several months, JLM volunteers painted, furnished and updated a two bedroom unit. After completing this renovation project, JLM has made the commitment to upkeep the apartment and renovate an additional unit.
