TEEN COURT COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
2007 RECIPIENT

Laura Ramirez, who volunteered her time for Teen Court, received a $1,000 scholarship for college in 2007.  Teen Court allows volunteers to better understand our system of justice and serves hundreds of teens each year.  Teen Court is a legally binding alternative system of justice that offers young offenders an opportunity to make restitution for their offenses through community service, educational classes, and jury service.

TEXAS BLUEBONNET GIRLS STATE SCHOLARSHIP
 2005 RECIPIENTS

The following 2005 Girls State citizen delegates each received sponsorships of $400: Erika Russell (McAllen High School), Katlyn Jane Cagle (McAllen Memorial High School) & Ashley Thornton (Nikki Rowe High School).  Texas Bluebonnet Girls State - a mythical state where participants organize their own governments - is held during June at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.  The program concludes with a visit to the State Capitol building in Austin where the girls are given an opportunity to meet state officials.  The purpose of Girls State is to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. The Girls State program is sponsored as a public service by the more than twenty thousand members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas.
