GRANTS

Funds are granted annually through the Community Assistance Fund to respond to the immediate needs of local non-profit agencies.
Funds are granted annually through the Educational Enhancement Fund to support a wide variety of educational experiences
for local children including camps, educational trips, and conferences.
The Aid for Better Classrooms Grant (ABC Grant) is awarded each year to up to twelve teachers within McAllen ISD
and at McAllen Private Schools in order to encourage innovative educational projects within their classrooms.

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE FUND & EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT FUND
RECIPIENTS 2011-2012

$1,500 to Rio Grande Children's Home
These funds purchased summer equipment and provided monies for summer activities for the forty children in residence at Rio Grande Children's Home.  The home cares for children who have been neglected or abused by their families - providing love, security, and an opportunity for healing.  This grant will allow the children at the home to enjoy summer to the fullest by purchasing swimsuits and towels as well as paying admission to museums and other attractions.

$1,000 to Project Insight
These funds purchased GPS units for the 7th Annual Project Insight Youth Camp held in June 2011.  Over twenty youth, boys and girls ages ten to fifteen, attended this camp which focuses on creativity and nature.  The grant purchased ten global positioning units with an expected use of at least eight years each.  There is a fee for the camp; however, fundraising efforts throughout the year cover the costs for those who can not afford the fee.  The camp is held at El Rocio Retreat, 18 acres of natural habitat in Mission, and provides a genuine camping experience for the youth.  The goal of the camp is to empower youth by promoting their physical, mental, and emotional well being.  The GPS units will also be used throughout the year by scout, church, and school group visiting El Rocio Retreat.
