The 2011 Fall Provisional Class partnered with other organizations to bring Serve Our Schools to life.  The project brought together community volunteers to better four campuses in McAllen ISD.  Volunteers painted, landscaped, and even organized the libraries.  Junior League of McAllen members assisted with public relations, volunteer coordination, and material donations like plants and drinking water.  They spread word about the event through the media and countless presentations to civic and nonprofit groups.  The event took place on September 17th.

The 2011 Spring Provisional Class designed a class project entitled Backpacks of Hope to benefit the foster children of A World for Children - a faith-based, non-profit child placing agency licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.  The goal of the project was to allow these children the opportunity to excel scholastically despite unfortunate circumstances and financial difficulties.  A wine tasting fundraiser was held at Nuevo Santander Gallery on June 23rd and more than $6,000 was raised to buy backpacks and school supplies.  On August 15th, one hundred backpacks stuffed to the zippers with school supplies were delivered to the children at their back-to-school bash.

The 2010 Fall Provisional Class organized an auction of original artwork entitled Art to Heart to benefit displaced children in the community.  Local talent was asked to create specially designed wooden hearts which were generously donated and publicly auctioned.  The purpose of the project was to encourage everyone to give from the heart for the benefit of others in need.  The hearts were displayed on November 5th at the McAllen Art Walk and auctioned on November 10th at Roosevelt's.  The proceeds were divided and presented to Buckner Children’s Home, Spaulding for Children, The Rainbow Room, and Estrella’s House.

The 2009 Fall Provisional Class selected the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Edinburg Children's Hospital as the recipient of their class project entitled Stock the Pantry.  The Ronald McDonald Family Room offers a place of refuge within the hospital to families with sick or injured children.  Families can take advantage of a kitchen area, shower facilities, sleeping rooms, laundry facilities, internet access, reference books, and much more.  The goal of the class project was to stock the pantry of the kitchen in the family room with 3,000 items.  Altogether, with tremendous support from the community, the class collected 4,205 items ranging from food stuffs to cleaning supplies!

The 2008-2009 Provisional Class chose Art for Autism as their class project.  Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and affects a person’s ability to communicate and interact with others.  Children with high functioning autism can be taught at an early age to express themselves through different forms of therapy - one expressive therapy that has proven to be quite beneficial is art therapy.  The Provisional Class' goal was to both promote awareness of autism and to provide local families with a tool for engaging their children with autism.  They gathered together art supplies for over 200 children newly diagnosed with Autism.

The 2007-2008 Provisional Class chose Sweet Dreams - Pajama and Book Drive as their class project.   For many underprivileged children, nighttime often means a hard end to an equally hard day.  Many go to bed wearing their street clothes…or wearing nothing at all.  The pajama and book drive helped to create a warm and nurturing environment for youngsters living under difficult circumstances.  The class collected 608 pairs of new pajamas and 1200 new and gently used books which they distributed to Court Appointed Special Advocates, the Rio Grande Children's Home, and Spaulding for Children.  These items will supply the children served by the recipient organizations with "sweet dreams" for well over one year!   Gonzalez Elementary participated in the drive as part of its "Make a Difference Day".

The 2006-2007 Provisional Class organized A Children's Health and Safety Awareness Fair entitled Passport to a Healthy You as their class project.  Over 1200 people attended the fair which featured: nutritional classes, first aid training, dental exams, speech and hearing screenings, blood pressure checks, height and weight checks, diabetes screenings, sleep education, bug bite education, stop-drop-and-roll classes, proper car seat installation, fingerprinting and photo ids, physical activity stations, healthy refreshments, and much more.  In all, 38 booths were available at the event and 33 sponsors were secured to underwrite the cost!

The 2005-2006 Provisional Class chose the Children's Advocacy Center as the recipient of their class project entitled The Power of Teddy.   The goal of the project was to collect 840 bears (the number of abused children that are helped by the Children's Advocacy Center each year) to help these children emotionally as they deal with the difficultly of the many tasks required by our criminal and civil justice system.   Over 1800 bears were presented to the Children's Advocacy Center by the class!

Cook Jr. Children's Cancer & Hematology Clinic.  Among the items collected during the drive were: a double-space drying rack, classroom carry-alls, paint cup carriers, ink pads sets, no-spill paint cups, paintbrush holders, ten gallons of fully washable liquid tempera paints, ten color sets of beginner brushes, scissor centers, and an oversized bulletin board.

The 2003-2004 Provisional Class created a project entitled Packed with Love.  Members collected items needed by the abused and neglected children who are removed from their homes by CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).  These items include suitcases, backpacks, blankets, pajamas, hairbrushes & combs, shampoo & conditioner, toothbrushes & toothpaste, and teddy bears.  This project benefited 206 foster children.
