The Junior League of McAllen
is celebrating Christmas Around the World! For twenty two years, the
Junior League of McAllen has traditionally opened the holiday season
with its Dias Festivos Marketplace in order to raise funds for the
children of the community. Untold hours of labor organizing
this grand shopping extravaganza result in encouragement and
education for the youth in Hidalgo County, Texas. The event
would not be a success without the generous support of our Corporate
Sponsors and our Auction Donors.
Dias Festivos Marketplace 2009 will feature gourmet foods, apparel, fashion accessories, home
furnishings, original art, and a variety of unique gifts for the holidays. Located inside the
McAllen Convention Center at Expressway 83 &
Ware Road, the marketplace is open to the public
during the first
weekend of December. General Admission is $5, and children
under 12 are admitted free of charge.

Dias Festivos, the Junior League of McAllen's holiday
gift fair, began in 1987. It followed a
long tradition of fundraisers which included: the first Charity Ball
in 1938, the first Follies in 1947, bridge lessons in 1953, the first
Artist's Costume Ball in 1954, the first weekly modeling at Jones &
Jones in 1957, the first Halloween Barn Dance in 1958, the first rummage
sale in 1959, the first Millionaires Party in 1961, the first Spring
Bouquet to benefit the McAllen International Museum in 1968 and the
first Casino Party in 1981. Our fundraisers enable us to fulfill our Vision Statement of
“significantly improving the lives of children and youth in our
community.”
